History
The origin of the Estate goes back to the late 12th century. Ancestors of the present owners joined Henry the Lion of Saxony, as “Milites Christi”, and helped to christianise the eastern part of Mecklenburg. Farmers from further west were invited to settle here. The beautiful Church was built and inaugurated around 1230. In the early days it also served as a defensive refuge.
The von der Lühe family lost ownership of the Kölzow estate at the end of the 18th century. The present Manor House was built by the von Prollius family. In 1925 Prince Friedrich Sigismund of Prussia purchased the estate as his summer residence.
After 1945 the House offered shelter to 17 refugee families, housed the village shop and the kindergarten of the village. As a result, the Manor House suffered and deteriorated considerably. When restauration started in 2001 it had practically been reduced to a ruin.
